To enjoy your BIAB nails for as long as possible, it is best to first treat your nails with nail prep and then apply a layer of base coat. Then apply a bead of Builder gel and use a brush to distribute the gel over the nail. Repeat the Builder gel step until you are satisfied with the coverage and thickness. Finally, apply a layer of top coat to your nails for long-lasting shine and protection.

Applying gel polish, what’s the best way to do it?

Applying gel polish can take some time, but with the right steps and supplies, you can enjoy a beautiful manicure for longer. This guide will help you apply gel polish step-by-step to your own nails or someone else's. Make sure you have all the necessary materials on hand before you start. Let's get LAKKIE!

What do you need?

- UV/LED nail lamp

- Base coat

- Gel polish color

- Top coat

- Nail file

- Cuticle pusher

- Degreaser/ acetone

- Nail wipes

- Cuticle oil 

Step 1: File your nails into the desired shape.

Step 2: Gently push back your cuticles using a cuticle pusher.

Step 3: Slightly roughen the surface of your nails with a coarse nail file. You do this so the gel polish adheres better to your nail, allowing you to enjoy it for longer. Now, clean your nails with a degreaser. Put a little degreaser or acetone on a nail wipe and clean the edges thoroughly as well. Ensure the nails are completely free of dust and lint.

Step 4: If you want to go for even better adhesion, apply nail prep to your nails first. Let this air dry for 30 seconds. (Nail prep is optional)

Start with a base coat. This can be a standard base coat, a rubber base coat, a covering rubber base coat, or possibly a BIAB application. Apply a thin layer and make sure to keep about 1 mm distance from your cuticles. If you want the layer to line up more neatly with your cuticles, use a thin brush, but ensure the gel polish does not come into contact with your skin. While applying the base coat (and the following layers), also make sure to coat the free edge of the nail. This is what we call "sealing" the nail. This prevents air from getting under the gel polish, helping it stay on much better. An important step, therefore. Next, let this layer cure under the UV/LED lamp.

Step 5: Now apply a thin layer of the gel polish color of your choice. Keep the distance from the cuticles in mind here as well. Otherwise, use a thin brush again to make the gel polish line up nicely with the cuticles. Ensure the gel polish does not come into contact with the skin.

Make sure to seal the free edge well with every layer here too. Then, let this layer cure under the nail lamp. Repeat this step until you have the perfect coverage. Note that you should apply really thin layers rather than very thick ones. Thick layers of gel polish often look bad quickly and can start to wrinkle—a waste of all your hard work.

Step 6: Are you happy with the result? Then apply the no-wipe top coat and let this layer of gel polish cure under the UV/LED lamp as well. This can be a glossy top coat, of course, but also a matte top coat.

Step 7: And finally, take care of your cuticles with some cuticle oil. You can easily use the brush to go around the nail to apply the oil. After applying it to every finger, massage the oil in well so it absorbs properly. It is best to apply cuticle oil twice a day.

Wasn't so bad, right? And remember, practice makes perfect!

You cannot remove BIAB with acetone or gel polish remover.
You must always carefully file BIAB off your nails.
Use a coarse nail file for this, or – if you have a bit more experience – an electric nail drill.
File until you reach the natural nail, but be extra careful: do not go too deep, otherwise you may damage your nail.

Do I need to use a base coat under BIAB?
Yes, always. Otherwise, the BIAB will not adhere to your nails.

How long does BIAB last?
On average, BIAB stays looking good for 2 to 3 weeks, depending on your nail growth and how you treat them.

Can I use BIAB on short or weak nails?
Yes! BIAB is specifically designed to strengthen short or weak nails and help them grow.

Do I need nail prep for BIAB?
That depends on your nail type. For oilier nails, it is recommended to use a primer for extra adhesion.

The BIAB is very thick, I can't paint with it, am I doing something wrong?

BIAB works differently than regular gel polish. You don’t ‘paint’ it like a gel polish color, but apply it as a bead that you spread over your nail.
Then, distribute the product toward the sides with your brush, without pressing down.
BIAB is intended for experienced users.
